Introduction to the Western Cape and Cape Town:
Table Mountain stands like a Sentinel over the city of Cape Town, one of the most sought after tourist attraction. Named the ‘Mother City’, Cape Town is a mosaic of cultures situated in an exceptional natural environment. Discover the Cape Peninsula, its Nature reserve, its beaches and cliffs at Cape of Good Hope, swim with the African penguins, walk on the slopes of Table Mountain in the botanical gardens of Kirstenbosch. The city centre takes you from the typical colourful houses of the Malay district, Bo-Kaap, to the leisure installations of the Waterfront, within the Harbour, through the cheerful atmosphere of Greenmarket Square and the fashionable beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay. Don’t miss a trip on the cable car to go up Table Mountain or the visit of Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was kept prisoner.
Leave Cape Town and discover the Wine Route, from Stellenbosch to Paarl, via Franschhoek, the ‘French corner’. At the foot of the Mountains stretch more than 200 beautiful wine estates , many of them feature Manor houses in the ‘Cape Dutch’ architecture . Along the Coast is the town of Hermanus, famous for the Whales who visit the bay every year at the end of Winter (September-October), as well as the small fishermen village of Arniston, or more: Cape Agulhas, the Southernmost point in Africa. The population count of the Western Cape is 4.3 million, mostly Afrikaans-speaking (58%), then English (20%) and Xhosa (19%)
