Introduction to Namibia
Namibia is best described as a country with abundance of space… Its vast landscapes open onto a cloudless sky which procures a sensation of immensity, emphasized by the dryness of its climate: it is the 5th largest country of Africa, and the driest at the South of the Sahara.
Its moon-like landscapes make us believe that life doesn’t exist, what a mistake! Life is there, from the desert-adapted elephants to the strange plants Welwitschia, without mentioning the Himba tribe, one of the last nomad people. Namibia invites you to discover its unique personality.
The West of the country is formed of immenses sand dunes, abrupt valleys and open plains. It is home to the oldest desert in the world: The Namib. The East of the country is much flater and covered with sand, it is the country of the Kalahari desert and its savannah, stretching until the Botswana and South African borders.
The Caprivi stretch, in the North East, contrasts with the rest of the country thanks to its green grass and sub-tropical forests. The Mopane forests in the Etosha National Park offer another aspect of Namibia.
Fauna and Flora are plenty: 4000 species of plants, 650 of birds, 240 of reptiles and 80 of big mammals! |
