Introduction to Botswana
A little bigger than France, this country is situated on the South plateau of Africa with an average elevation of 1000m altitude. The climate is temperate with a tropical tendency in the North.
Most of the country is semi-désert with 2/3 of the country covered with the plains of the Kalahari, contrasting with the Okavango delta which is one of the world’s remaining wilderness area, a green and blue jewel covering 15000 km2. The sanctuary shelters an incredible diversity of fauna and flora. This delta is formed under the action of the tectonic plaques combining lagoons, canals, mangrove, islands and wetland surrounded by the Kalahari desert. To fly over its crystal-clear waters is a unique experience and the ‘mokoro’ (canoe) is the best means of transportation to explore and
enjoy its quiet beauty.
Botswana is probably the most untouched country with little human development, and abundant wildlife. The Northern regions share a common border with Namibia on the Caprivi strip, where regions of Linyanti, Selinda and the Chobé National Park can be found. These are ideal complementary destinations to discover in combination with the Okavango
delta , its wildlife and spectacular landscapes. Its exclusivity is secured by small lodges which are mostly only
accessible by air.
