WHEN TO GO

June to October is the dry season and is when to go to Mozambique for cooler temperatures and the least chance of rain; November to May is the wet summer season although it generally rains in brief but vigorous downpours after which the sun comes out again.

International flights to Maputo, Vilanculos and Pemba

Best connections are from Johannesburg to reach those destinations.

STAY HEALTHY

Ensure your Polio vaccine is up to date, as well as hepatitis A&B, meningitis A, C, Y and W and Typhoid.

Yellow fever vaccine is compulsory. It takes 10 days to be active after injection and it works for 10 years.

Mozambique is a malaria area.

 

LANGUAGE

Portuguese is the official language. However, many other African languages are spoken (Shona, Shangana, Manyika, Sena, Makua and Ronga)

 

CURRENCY

Local currency is the Metical. It is divided into 100 centavos.

 

VISA

Passport (valid 6 months after return date) and a compulsory Visa. Visa can be obtained with the Mozambique Embassy (about 2 weeks). When leaving the country, travelers must pay an airport tax of USD20 per person for international flights. Tax payable only in cash (meticals, rands or dollars)
